What to expect
Charley’s chocolate tour offers an authentic experience, which is highly appreciated by our visitors. As you explore the tour, you’ll be immersed in a working sustainable cocoa farm where the chocolate is produced. It’s important to note that we deliberately steer away from the typical theme park attractions; at Charley’s, you won’t find any chocolate fountains, and that’s a commitment we intend to keep. Instead, the tour promises to be both entertaining and educational, making it an essential activity for anyone exploring tropical far north Queensland.
During the tour, you’ll witness the opening of a cocoa pod, providing you with the opportunity to taste the delicious cocoa fruit firsthand.
We will visit the cocoa tree nursery to see how Charley’s journey began and the cocoa plantation itself. Here you’ll see the tiny orchid like flowers where chocolate starts its transition to become a ripe cocoa pod. Next you’ll see that we grow our cocoa on trellis and we’ll explain why we do this and how it’s a world first for Australia.
You can participate in both the cocoa bean cracking and winnowing steps, allowing you to taste the cacao nibs firsthand. Afterwards, you’ll progress to experiencing the final stages of conching and tempering, culminating in the transformation of the chocolate into a delectable finished chocolate bar.
